FBI Joint Task Force Case Discharged for Lack of Evidence- Commonwealth v. M.E.

FBI Joint Task Force Case Discharged for Lack of Evidence- Commonwealth v. M.E.

ME was arrested as part of a joint FBI and Philadelphia Police Department task force sting for illegal narcotics. The task force had a confidential informant allegedly set up a sell of illegal narcotics to ME over the phone. After the conversation ended the joint task force placed a wire on the confidential informant to record his interaction with ME. The joint task force drove the confidential informant to a McDonald’s and gave him two bottles of placebo pills to sell to ME for two-thousand dollars. After the alleged exchange, officers raided ME’s house and found money from another alleged drug transaction. Mr. Shaffer vigorously defended ME and continually objected to the officer’s testimony due to lack of actual observation during critical parts of the investigation. Due to his rigorous defense, Mr. Shaffer had ME’s case discharged for lack of evidence.
